No one is born spiritually rich before God.
Oh yes, I was never a Christian when I was born. No one was.
Until 2010, you may have seen me in churches (Methodist, Roman Catholic, and others) but I was never born again. I was only a church goer who was unworthy to enter God’s court to be in the congregation of the righteous (Psalm 1:5).
This must sink in our heart: no one is born spiritually rich before God. Let me explain. Each one of us is born naturally sinful and hostile towards God. We have no spiritual connection with God. In Romans 3:10-12, Paul the apostle put it that none is righteous, no not one. No one seeks after God.
In Ephesians 2:11-12, Paul again gives us a vivid description of who we were before we were saved:
11 Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh—who are called uncircumcision by what is called the circumcision made in the flesh by hands— 12 that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.
We must understand that no one is naturally born in the flesh being rich before God. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23) We all need the grace of God.
When I say I was never born again, I mean it was in sin that my mother conceived me. That’s why we all need the grace of God that saves. We all need the gospel that brings salvation.
