How will you carry yourself if you were a New Testament scholar of a major college in the US, written books, spoken in conferences, and preached around the world? For many of us, our titles will go ahead of our physical appearance and we will majestically show up as if we are village chiefs.
But the above is not so of Rev. Prof. Daniel Darko. In a typical down to earth manner when he was introduced to preach at ICGC The Royal Temple at Awoshie-Accra, Ghana, he said this of himself:
“My name is Kwaku Darko. I am a village champion and a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. That is the most important thing you should know about me.”
If you are not impressed that God still has remnants who love His work irrespective of their achievements in life, then you have to go back to the Scriptures and reorient your mind on who a Servant of God is. In an age when people who have done little want to be hailed as global champions, it is worth emulating the simple and godly lifestyle of people like Prof. Darko.
“As I told you, I am just an ordinary village boy. Whenever I stand here, if you’ve noticed, those of you have heard me, I don’t want to forget that I was a village champion.”
Rev. Dan Darko
Here are two major reasons why he offered for identifying himself as a village champion and a servant of Christ:
- To remind you of what is possible to those who trust in God.
- To also remind myself that I have no reason to boast whatsoever because whatever I am and whatever I could be is just by His grace.
These are two good reasons why each one of us must understand that wherever we are in life, it is by the doing of the Lord. James said that every good and perfect thing comes from above (James 1:17). Paul the apostle said in 1 Corinthians 15:10 that he had achieved all he did by the grace of God. Where is boasting then? No one has any reason to boast of what they have or what they have done. We are all products of the gracious goodness of the Lord.
