One Good Reason Why You Must Read Your Bible

The Bible is the word of God (2 Timothy 3:16). For believers, it is what we use to live our lives each and every day. The Psalmist says that the word of God is lamp unto our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). It guides us in all areas of life.

Why then do believers, washed by the blood of Jesus Christ and recognize Him as Lord and saviour, neglect reading their Bible? In fact, many believers will never know of the message in some of the Old and New Testament books in their lifetime. Some don’t know Nahum, Ezra, Micah, Zephaniah, Philemon, Jude, and others as being books in the Bible.

“The only way the Scriptures will not depart from our mouth is when we keep them in our heart through daily reading and meditation.”

Dear Christian, one good reason why we must read our Bible is because God commands us to do so. In Joshua 1:8, the Bible says;

"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success."
(Joshua 1:8 NKJV)

This verse is very loaded but related to our subject today, what I can say is that God commands that “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth…” The only way the Scriptures will not depart from our mouth is when we keep it in our heart through daily reading and meditation.

Psalm 1:2-3 teaches us the following about what the righteous man do with the word of God and it results;

"2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper."

May the Lord give us passion for His word to read it and understand it.
