Don’t Give Up Reading Your Bible [You Can Start Again]

Some Christians give up reading their Bible because they forgot to read it a day or two. They feel that if they have left it for those days, they should abandon it forever. Hence, when you meet such people and ask them what’s going on with their Bible reading, they will reply that they used to read it but it’s been a while.

“We must not make Bible reading a legalistic agenda with a ready checklist to sign off when we read it.”

My message to you is that don’t give up reading the Bible just because you missed a day or two reading it. Don’t give up! You see, when people have not heard other people’s Christian journey, they tend to think that they are the worst Christians ever.

Bible reading builds up over time. It is a journey that no one will ever finish. No wonder God commanded Israel and in extension the church, in Deuteronomy to keep the word whilst we sleep, are awake, lie down, walking, on our wrist, and doorpost. Hear the words of Deuteronomy 6:6-9. Which says:

6 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates."

We must not make Bible reading a legalistic agenda with a ready checklist to sign off when we read it. We are commanded to let the word of God dwell in us richly so that we can live the godly life in liberty (Colossians 3:16). Our zeal for the Lord must be deeply rooted in the knowledge of the Bible. Missing days of reading is not the problem. The real issue is whether we are applying what we are reading. To miss reading and apply what you know is better than to read and read and read and never apply to transform your life.
