This year, I set out to read a book a week. That was audacious. Truth be told, I have not been able to follow as planned. But I have not thrown in the towel. I have read a number of books since the beginning of the year.
I pulled out a book on Jesus Christ recently that I am reading. It’s titled The Jesus You May Not Know: Take the Journey from Knowing About Jesus to Knowing Jesus by American pastor, preacher, and author Dr. David Jeremiah.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Dr. David Jeremiah is one of the most trusted Bible teachers in our time.
For more than 38 years, he has helped millions deepen their understanding of the Bible through daily Turning Point Radio releases and a daily Turning Point Television program that reaches millions of people globally.
He has authored many books, including The Jeremiah Study Bible, Revealing the Mysteries of Heaven, Escape the Coming Night, and The Book of Signs.
ABOUT THE BOOK
The book is a study of Jesus Christ otherwise called Christology. It looks at the life and work of Jesus Christ.
It helps the reader move from knowing about Jesus to knowing Jesus personally and intimately. Dr. David Jeremiah takes you on an amazing journey into the very heart of Christ — not through a storybook of His life, but through an astonishing exploration of His character, His attributes, His spirit.

WHAT I HAVE LEARNT SO FAR
#1. Jesus Is Eternal
The Bible teaches that Jesus existed before everything. He actually made everything. According to John 1, without Him nothing was made. Colossians 1 reemphasize that everything was made through Him. These are clear attributes we ascribe to only God. It therefore helps us to conclude that Jesus is God. He is one and equal in substance with the Father and the Spirit.
Dr. Jeremiah wrote on His eternality that;
“In Christ alone, we discover the meaning of eternity. Jesus was an actual person in history. He was born in Bethlehem, entering the world from a virgin’s womb. When he was about 33 years old, He died at the hands of Roman troops who crucified Him. This is real history, but it didn’t represent the beginning or the end of Jesus Christ. He came down from heaven, the endless God of eternity. He is everlasting in the heavens. The eternal Jesus became the historical Jesus on earth that we, who live in history, might enjoy His eternal heaven.” (p. 4)
#2. Jesus Is From The Old Testament
In another great chapter, the author deals with the numerous passages that talk about the promise of the Messiah from the Old Testament. Christ did not show up in the New Testament but He preexisted it. If He existed before everything, it means He existed before even the Old Testament. Isaiah 53-54 are great chapters that vividly predicted His sufferings in the hands of the religious leaders and the soldiers before He appeared.
Concerning the predictions of Jesus in the Old Testament, Dr. Jeremiah said;
“The Old Testament is stockpiled with information about Christ. There are more than three hundred specific predictions about Him. Plus there are what we call types or pictures of Jesus – people, objects, or events that prefigure certain aspects of His work. Finally, on many occasions we discover the very presence of Jesus in the Old Testament. We call those Christophanies – appearances of Christ before His incarnation.” (p. 26)
#3. Jesus Gives Eternal Life
The book always concludes with an action point for readers to put their faith in Jesus Christ. It is not only informational but transformational to help unbelievers move from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light. It also helps believers to strengthen their faith in Christ.
Pastor Jeremiah noted that;
“We don’t enter eternal life when we die; we experience eternal life the very moment we confess Jesus as Everlasting Lord – as our Lord – and believe in our heart that He has risen from the dead. From that moment, our life is eternal with God.” (p. 22)
This book will greatly help you to understand our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ for who the Bible teaches He is and not what we have come to learn from other sources He is. Many have a view of Jesus which is unbiblical. But the author takes us on a sound biblical journey about the doctrine of Christ (Christology).
May we understand Christ and live for Him as His bondservants.
