“Worship is the substance of our lifestyle that is acceptable to God.”
Biblical worship is not just singing songs unto God but a heart of worship to God. God first wants our heart, the centre of our being, out of which springs all issues of life (Proverbs 4:23), to be for Him and devoted solely to Him before the fruit of our lips sing unto Him (Hebrews 13:15). Once our heart is for God, whatever we do is done for Him.
Singing is one part of our worship to God. But ultimately, we must aim at continually living for God in order to express our heart of worship unto Him. If you sing and praise Him without your heart for Him, it is lip service and acts that amount to nothing.
God is looking for people who will worship Him in truth and in spirit (John 4:24).
#1. God Commands Our Worship
As the King of all, God commands that we worship Him everyday of our lives. Indeed, He has given us what it takes to worship Him. So worship is not a suggestion but a command. Jesus said if we fail to worship Him, He will command stones to do so (Luke 19:40).
#2. God Deserves Our Worship
God deserves our worship because He is the creator of everything (Psalm 24:1). He made the heavens, the earth and all that is in it. We must be heavy on worship to God. He made us, He sustains us and He delivers us from the works of satan (Colossians 1:13). God alone deserves our worship. None can be compared to Him.
#3. God Wants Our Worship Forever
Worship does not end here on earth. It’s perpetual. It will continue in heaven. We see a snapshot of this in Revelation where multitudes stand before the throne of God and worship Him who is forever (Revelation 19:6-7). There is no end to God, thus worship will never end as far as God is forever (Revelation 1:8).
If worship is expected to be our lifestyle (Romans 12:1), then we must not categorize it and reduce it to just singing which is an aspect of the totality of worship. Worship is our heart for God. Worship is our mind for God. Worship is our soul for God. Worship is our strength for God. (Matthew 22:37) Therefore, whether we are at work, home, privately, or publicly, we must do everything to honour and worship the name of God. Worship is the substance of our lifestyle that is acceptable to God.
