In the year 2006, my life was open to the world of reading. I started buying newspapers, magazines and later motivational books and then I graduated to Christian books when I became a born again Christian in 2010.
In fact, when I was in university (2006-2010), on my floor, people used to come to my room to collect the newspaper of the day to read and know what was happening in Ghana and the world. I have been exposed to a world of possibilities through reading. I love reading any day and time. I buy books and read books.
I am still on the quest of buying new books and reading them.
We must be deliberate about what we read. We must go all out to buy books and read them.
One of my mentors said that if you have more shoes than books, you are in the walking economy and not the knowledge economy. For Christians who don’t read, those who read become their lifeline upon which they learn to understand the Bible and live their lives.
Let me offer you these tips to help you realign your life on the subject of reading:
#1. Everyone Can Read
I have heard some people say they cannot read but will rather listen to audio. That’s fine! What’s important is that you have relevant knowledge about God and His kingdom kicking in your life. The point I want to drive home is that everyone (except you have a special condition) can read and understand if you are literate.
#2. Buy Books & Other Materials
I love to read hard books. I love to read, underline, make notes and refer later. So I buy lots of books for my library. It’s a good treasure for my children. Whatever will help you, must be acquired to help increase your knowledge base for growth.
#3. Make Time to Read
You are not better than someone who does not read if you buy books and other materials and never open them to read. Actually reading is what makes a man or woman. So make some time in your busy schedule to read relevant life changing materials.
Finally, take action now! Start today. Take your Bible and read. Take a Christian book on your shelf and turn the first page and read. As you do that, interact with the material by asking questions such as: what is the book about? How will the page I have read help me to serve God and relate well with other people? Keep asking the second question whenever you are done with a page reading until you are fully done.
May God increase your desire for books and other materials to read and improve your life.
