How I Felt After 5 Days Without Reading My Bible

I love to read my Bible daily. I am motivated by Jesus’ words in Matthew 4:4 that man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Hence, I find myself daily looking intently into the perfect law of liberty that I will be blessed in what I do. (James 1:25)

Not long ago, I became so busy that I could barely open my Bible to read as my custom is. But even though I was not reading according to my rigorous plan, I was reading a few verses here and there. My main plan as mentioned above was on standstill for five good days. That meant that I would have a lot to catch up with.

I don’t know about you but I felt something was not right with me. By the grace of God, I have been doing Bible reading and studying for many years now. So not reading the Bible made me feel dry and hungry for God’s word. I didn’t feel good. I love to read volumes of the word each morning and break it down in my studies.

How did I bounce back?

Well, I went back to my same old tried and tested plan. I woke up early in the morning, prayed, and then sat down to read the book of Ephesians from chapter 1 to 6.

Many times people think Bible reading and studying has secret codes to use in order to be effective. I don’t have any secrets of such nature. I only want to encourage you that Bible reading must have a plan and be followed. Just start right now or early tomorrow morning by getting a Bible (hard or soft copy), sit down undisturbed, follow your plan, and read.

Another point worth noting is that you might miss your plan for some days. But find your way back to the plan and take action on it.

We grow spiritually by reading the Bible. Apostle Peter encourages us to desire the sincere milk of the word that we may grow.

"as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby." (I Peter 2:2 NKJV)

May God place a hunger and a thirst for His word in us. May we be moved to take action and read the word.
