Don’t Be Afraid of Satan

Deception brings fear but faith in God brings assurance that no one can destroy us.

In the part of the world where I come from, Satan is magnified by both believers and unbelievers. He is made to occupy a higher position he himself knows he has not got what it takes to occupy. For example, a careful study of prayer topics will reveal that Satan’s name may dominate more than Jesus or the Trinity. Our African worldview is dangerously permeated by the fear of Satan and his cohort demons, principalities and powers.

But in all these, the African forgets that we are far from what the Bible teaches. We affirm little of what the Bible says of Satan and continue in our own understanding of who he is and what he can do.

In the Ancient book of Job, we are introduced to the work of Satan in light of the sovereignty of God. Satan came to God to desire to tempt Job and prove that Mr. Job believes in God because of the prosperity he gets. God allowed it. Here is my question: why did Satan come to God to ask for permission? It is just to tell us that Satan has little power over the children of God. Satan did not create human beings but God did. Satan is a creation of God just as we are. Therefore, he cannot act over and above the limit he has.

If you are afraid of Satan, it is out of fear and not a truth that Satan can do something against you and your family. Christ is supreme and more powerful than Satan. He has all authority and power everywhere.

Colossians 2:8-10 says,

8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

#1. Satan Cheats and Deceives

Look at the Scripture again, Satan cheats and deceives people into believing he is powerful. Satan rules by deception. He deceived Eve into disobedience. Paul says, we must beware lest the people who are agents of Satan cheat and deceive us.

#2. Jesus Christ is Head

In contrast, Paul says that Christ is the head of all principalities and powers. There is no power above the name of Jesus Christ. Demons hear His name and tremble. I love this, Paul said in Colossians 3:3 that we are hidden with Christ in God. Amazing. Praise the Lord. There is no cause for fear. Stay hidden through obedience and trust in Christ.

There is no reason for a believer to fear Satan like the way people in Nigerian movies fear juju men. Deception brings fear but faith in God brings assurance that no one can destroy us. Unto Him who is able to keep us from falling. We are safe and secure in Christ.

Don’t fear Satan but rather enjoy the freedom and liberty only Christ gives. We are safe in Christ.

Praise God!

  1. Satan has been a deceiver from the inception of this world and continues to deceive people. He is never powerful enough to stand in the face of any child of God that knows his or her right. The One who possess the greater power lives inside of us and we have already overcome Satan, his cohorts and this world. Let’s embrace the truth in God’s Word and be liberated. HALELLUJAH TO HIS HOLY NAME. Bless you MoG for this insightful article.
