“What the mind does is how you put it to work.”
The mind is a powerful tool for imagination and thinking that God has given to every human being. Whether sane or not, we all have head that houses the mind. When someone says your head is good they simply mean your mind is producing results.
When I was growing up, I used to hear older people tell me that my head was big and that I would do really well in school. Seriously, it somehow entered my head. But now, I have come to believe it is not true. What about those with small heads? The size of the head tells nothing about brilliance or intelligence. There are small headed people with great mind results but big headed people with fruitless lives. What the mind does is how you put it to work.
The Apostle Paul teaches some vital truths about how to be fruitful with the mind.
Philippians 4:8 says,
"8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things."
Paul says thag to have a fruitful mind, we must meditate on specific things outlined in this verse. These are things that are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, good report, virtuous, and praiseworthy. Eight things are clearly spelt out here for our attention and action.
So, before you think of anything ask yourself: is it true, noble, just, pure, lovely, good report, virtuous, and praiseworthy? Once we comply with these indicators, the results will be evident in our lives for all to see. Example, maybe you hear the news of a someone being in a scandal. Though the news is floating around, don’t just jump in and start insulting him or her. Start by asking the 8 grid questions. It will help you to come to a good judgment before making a decision.
I remember someone raised the issue that COVID-19 was a demonic scheme to wipe away all black people from the face of the earth. Though it may be true because such actions are not far from a depraved heart of man, I threw a simple question: how true is it? Where did he get his facts? He was there seemingly speechless and fumbling. We must not take things for granted. We must question motive and source. In this era of avalanche of news and information, we must guard our mind with critical inquiry or we will be tossed to and fro with anything for nothing.
Guard your mind and see good results. Guard your mind and see fruitfulness.
May the Lord help us to put our minds to productive use.
