The Girl Who Was Branded A Witch For Getting Aggregate 30 In BECE

When I talk about demonizing success and achievements in some parts of our culture, here we have a typical case that will blow your mind.

The Action Aid Campaign Country Manager speaking on The Probe on Joy News said that,

“Recently, there was a case we heard when we visited one of the communities that a girl who got around aggregate 30 in the BECE was [branded a witch]… meanwhile you know in the cities people are striving for aggregate 8, eight 1s and what not.”

How can a community or village be transformed when people think this way? How can a nation move forward in advancement when some people think in this superstitious manner?

You see, when you do well, some people think you are using certain powers others cannot assess. Meanwhile when you drive to the city, her contemporaries are aiming at excellent results. How can she and her peers from this village ever compete with children in the city not to talk of those in the US, China and UK? They certainly have a long way to go.

Here are my thoughts about this matter:

#1. Success Can Be Attained By Anyone

Success in life is not limited to men only! Whether male or female, when we apply ourselves to certain principles laid down in creation by God, anyone can attain any height in life.

In Genesis, God said, male and female He created them and blessed them to be fruitful, multiply and fill the earth and then they can dominate the earth. This old antiquated backward mindset that a boy is better than a girl must be dropped soon or we are going nowhere.

#2. Success Can Be Attained Through Hard Work

Planning, diligence and hard work produces success and not magic powers. We will soon have to realize that when people use witchcraft powers, it is not sustainable. Yes, there is the existence of bad spirits that can help people achieve some success in life. Indeed, Satan promised our Lord Jesus that He will grant Him the kingdoms of the world if He worshipped him.

Real enduring success that is immortalized is gained through hard work. I am sure this girl has worked very hard to get grade 30 but she is being accused of witchcraft. When we see people succeeding, we must thank God and ask for grace to do the same.

#3. Success Can Be Attained Through Learning

Finally, I believe with all my heart that success is learnable. Paul said we should imitate him as He follows Christ. Business trainer and author, Brian Tracy has said that when we do what successful people do, we can get the same results they get. Success and achievement in any field can be learnt through mentorship.

If we demonize people’s success, how can we learn to be better like them? Never! There is no virtue in ascribing demons to the work of a faithful and hardworking person. David could kill Goliath because he had confidence in His God and also the experience from the years of wilderness killing lions and bears.

This mindset of success being achievable through diligence and hard work must be ingrained in our mind. In fact, it is witchcraft to describe good success as witchcraft. Let’s drop this mindset for a progressive one that will transform our society and country.
