Many years ago in the first century, when Paul was writing his last letter to his beloved son in the Lord, Timothy (Bishop of Ephesus), concerning how to conduct himself and fulfill faithful ministry, the Apostle Paul had a revelation about what will be happening in the last days and shared them with Timothy.
It is important that we take the Bible seriously because every word of prophecy in it will be fulfilled to the letter. Heaven and earth will pass away but His word will never pass away (Matthew 24:35). Whatever the Lord has revealed through his apostles and holy prophets will happen according to the divine time table.
What did Paul tell Timothy?
Before going into the specifics of what will happen, he told Timothy that he should, “…know this, that in the last days perilous times will come” (2 Timothy 3:1).
He then proceeded to share 21 things that will happen in II Timothy 3:2-9 (NKJV):
- For men will be lovers of themselves
- Men will be lovers of money
- Men will be boasters
- Men will be proud
- Men will be blasphemers
- Men will be disobedient to parents, unthankful
- Men will be unholy
- Men will be unloving
- Men will be unforgiving
- Men will be slanderers
- Men will be without self-control
- Men will be brutal
- Men will be despisers of good
- Men will be traitors
- Men will be headstrong
- Men will be haughty
- Men will be lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God
- Men will be having a form of godliness but denying its power
- Men will be always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth
- Men will resist the truth
- Men of corrupt minds
How do they affect people?
In the words of Paul, such people can affect us.
In II Timothy 3:6, Paul said,
“For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts”.
They cause people to sin against God.
What is their end?
Paul says their end is that, they have been disapproved and their folly will be evident for all to see.
II Timothy 3:8-9 says,
“Disapproved concerning the faith; but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was.”
What must we do?
Finally Paul teaches us how to treat such people who are caught up in the perversity of the world when he said, “And from such people turn away!” (II Timothy 3:5)
We must not associate with them to contaminate us.
It is evident that the perilous last days Paul spoke about to Timothy are here with us. Everything on the list is happening in one way or the other. We must guard our hearts against them in order not to affect us.
May the Lord give us discernment to spot such people and avoid them.
