Mary Slessor: A Life Sold To Christ & Lived For Him

When you ponder over what many missionaries have done and are doing in unknown places of the world, you will reasonably conclude that we are joking with the glorious Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ today.

About Mary Slessor

Mary was a shy girl who moved from Scotland to the village of Calabar in Nigeria and its environs to share Christ and shaped their way of living.

She lost everything; her dear mother and sister when she was on the mission field. She came to the end of life with few earthly possessions to her name. She spent over 35 years with wild people who killed twins and murdered their own to accompany dead chiefs. In the midst of sickness and attacks, she fought the beast of Calabar region.

At the end of her life, she had fought death many times to just be on her feet, establish missing posts, and win souls and disciple them. She rescued many twins and made many of them her own children. She never married. She lost her family but had many people by her bedside who became her family.

She lived the gospel life until death. Mary fought the good fight of faith and laid hold of eternal life.

Implications For Believers Today

Today, we feel lazy to read our Bible and study it when we are at the comfort of our own homes. We say we are shy to share Christ with other people because they don’t agree with us. We will not share anything from the Bible on social media but share jokes and use precious data to gossip. We preach whatever sermon jumps in our head because we fail to rightly divide the word of truth. We make mockery of ourselves when we love the world more than Christ. We use the name of Jesus to amaze wealth and impoverish many people in the name of ‘prosperity gospel’ (which is another gospel).

What we need is repentance from our alien ‘gospel’ to the Bible, go on our knees and plead for mercy to turn to God just as Malachi wrote of the Jews in his prophetic book. We all who so-call ourselves children of God need to turn 100% to the Son of God who loved us and gave Himself for our righteousness.

MAY THE TRUE CHRISTIANS STEP FORWARD AND LIVE FOR CHRIST ANYWAY.
