Jesus Is Coming Again!

Not long ago, I overheard music by a hip life artiste in Ghana to the effect that if Jesus was coming back again, He would have come a long time. To wit, the long delay means he is not showing up as has been preached after his ascension into heaven.

Even more, the atheist wants us to understand that life is just six feet at last. Other people have said that there is no heaven and hell. They say the good or bad times we experience here on earth amount to heaven and hell. If there is no heaven and hell, then there will be no judgment as the Bible prophetically predicts in Hebrews 9:27.

Will Jesus Come?

In his letter to the dispersed saints, Apostle Peter had to address the issue of whether Christ is coming back or not. Specifically in the second letter, Peter stated that His longsuffering must not be taken otherwise but must be seen as grace in action for the unsaved to come to saving faith.

Peter states:

“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”

(II Peter 3:9 NKJV)

What did Jesus Himself say about His coming? Before going to the cross, Jesus told His disciples that He will come back again (Matthew 16:27). Immediately after His ascension to heaven, two men in white apparel assured the bewildered disciples that this same Jesus whom they saw going up will come back in like manner (Acts 1:9-11). We have no reason to doubt that Jesus will come back again.

What Will Jesus Do?

The Bible teaches that He is coming back to establish His kingdom and rule in righteousness forever with the saints.

From the Old to the New Testaments, we are fully aware of the Second Coming of Christ and what it means for believers and unbelievers.

The Old Testament predicts that Christ will come back to systematically destroy evil and establish His righteous rule over the earth. (Zechariah 14)

Jesus said in Matthew 25:31‭-‬32 (NKJV) that,

“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.”

Paul said in I Thessalonians 4:16 (NKJV) that,

“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.”

Peter said in II Peter 3:12 (NKJV) that,

“looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?”

What Must We Do?

We must repent and look to Christ in order to guarantee entering the ark of safety or we await fire that burns with brimstone.

In 2 Peter 3:14‭-‬15‭, ‬17‭-‬18 (NKJV), Peter exhorts the brethren on how they should behave as they wait for the Second Coming of Christ:

“Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation… You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.”

Heaven and earth will pass away, but the Word of our Lord will be settled forever in heaven. The judge of all the earth is coming to issue His righteous judgment.

May we be found faithful.
