In life, movement must be directed at something meaningful, or it becomes a waste of time. In my previous write-up, I stated clearly that Paul kept a positive mindset of pressing on. But the question is: to what aim in life? Well, we will answer that question today.
In Philippians 3:12 (NKJV), Paul said, “Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, THAT I MAY LAY HOLD OF THAT FOR WHICH CHRIST JESUS HAS ALSO LAID HOLD OF ME.”
Why must we press on?
The reason why Paul the apostle pressed on in life was “that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.” He wanted to be faithful to the cause of Christ. In Romans 1:1, Paul noted that he was, “…a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God.” Christ laid hold of Paul to suffer many things for His sake (Acts 9:15-16). Paul didn’t want to miss the heavenly mission bestowed on him. He had to strive to lay hold of what Christ revealed to him.
It’s important that we keep pressing towards a clear God-given goal in life. Can you imagine a taxi driver at top speed heading for nowhere? That would be a meaningless journey. We must press on towards a clear goal like Paul did in order to achieve our vision.
