Scripture Focus: Genesis 1
Genesis 1 teaches that God made the heavens and the earth with a clear intention to make man as His caretaker. He is the mastermind behind everything we see. What we see comes from what we cannot see (Hebrews 11:3). The invincible gave birth to the visible. God created everything in a “very good” state (Genesis 1:31).
There are 4 important lessons we can take away from Genesis 1:
#1. God the Father, the Son and the Spirit existed before everything. (Genesis 1:1-3)
We learn from Genesis 1 that God the Father, the Son and the Spirit pre-existed before everything was ever created. In Genesis 21:33, Abraham called Him “the Everlasting God”. In Isaiah 9:6, Jesus is described as “Everlasting Father”. They have always been there before everything came into being but they were not created.
Genesis 1:1 says that, “In the beginning God…”
#2. God made the heavens and the earth and everything in it. (Genesis 1:1-26)
Psalm 24:1 gives us the Source and Owner of all things when it says the earth is the Lord’s and its fullness. The Bible teaches in Genesis 1 that God made everything we enjoy. When you consider creation, you will conclude that an intelligent Being is behind everything we see.
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” – Genesis 1:1 (NKJV)
#3. God masterminded the creation of man to be steward of all His creation. (Genesis 1:26-28)
Genesis 1 also teaches that man did not create himself. Male and female were conceived to be made by God! We were made in the image and likeness of God and not animals or any other creation. God planned and executed the creation of man to be a caretaker of His all creation. Knowing this will help you to understand who you are and what you can do with your life on earth.
Genesis 1:26 says,
“Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.””
#4. God provided food for man’s sustenance on earth. (Genesis 1:29-31)
The last important lesson we can pick from Genesis 1 is that God provided food and meat for man. He is the Great Father who made us and put all the resources needed for our sustenance. Before man appeared, He had already made provisions available.
Genesis 1:29 says, “And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.”
God made everything and appointed man to manage it. Man answers to God and not to man or Satan. Man becomes a faithful steward as far as He upholds the word of God. God created and holds everything by the word of His power.
