Scripture: Genesis 5
God creates hope from hopeless human conditions. With Him, all things are possible. What may seem absolutely impossible can be used by God to produce hope. In Genesis 5, the story of man was mere living and dying but hope came when Enoch emerged from Enosh’s generation all from Adam, to call on God.
What can we learn from Genesis 5?
#1. Man was created in the image and likeness of God. (Genesis 5:1-2)
The chapter starts with an important statement that man was made by God in His own images and likeness. Yes, Satan caused man to fall from glory but it does not take away our Source – we were divinely made by God and for God. It therefore can be reasoned that without God, man is nothing just as Jesus said in John 15.
#2. Man’s ultimate life without God is to live, die and be judged. (Genesis 5:3-20)
The Scriptures say in Hebrews that it is appointed unto man to die and after death judgment. Without God, there is no purpose to life. We may claim to live a good and impactful life but that will amount to destruction as Proverbs say. This chapter tells us that man without God has a simple agenda; to live, to die and to be judged. A life in God is entirely different and opposite.
#3. Man’s ultimate life with God is supernatural and being with God after death. (Genesis 5:21-32)
We see very significantly that even though much of the chapter speaks about man without God, He gives us hope in this hopeless situation. As if to say God had lost, He used Enoch and others to serve Him. They recognized the existence of God and served Him. They walked with Him in a supernatural way and fulfilled their purpose and went to be with Him.
There are two clear paths in life – life without God and life with God. Each of them has eternal implications of being in hell or heaven. The spiritual choices we make will determine which destination we end up hereafter.
Take Action: Prayerfully consider if you are walking with God or without God.
