God Delivers The Righteous

Scripture: Genesis 8

Abraham asked God in Genesis 17 if He will destroy the wicked with the just. God said no. As He promised Noah, God saved him and his family including animals because they did the will of God. God saves people who put their trust in Him. You cannot serve the devil, swim in worldliness and expect God to save you from destruction. In Genesis 8, God honoured His word to preserve the life of Noah and his family.

What can we learn from Genesis 8?

#1. God’s intervention. (Genesis 8:1-5)

The same God who brought the flood is able to let it cease. God is Lord over natural happenings and He can use it to fulfill His purpose on earth. When He wanted Pharaoh to know who He is, He released several plagues and also ceased them from harm when He wanted to. He caused the wind to blow to cease the flood from further destruction.

#2. Noah’s initiative. (Genesis 8:6-19)

Even though God made the flood to subside, Noah had to apply wisdom to check if all was well to inhabit the earth. He therefore used the dove to check. Until it went out and never came back, Noah never left the ark with the family. Living the will of God includes walking in wisdom. Ephesians 5 encourages us to walk in wisdom and not be unwise. Noah teaches us that walking with God includes walking in wisdom.

#3. God’s promises to man. (Genesis 8:20-22)

After he finally left the ark and started living, Noah cheerfully made sacrifices and offerings to the Lord from his limited resources. The Lord accepted them and made promises. God said in His heart not to curse the ground nor destroy living things as He did in Genesis 7. He further set the principle of seed time and harvest on the earth. When we offer our best to the Lord, the Lord gives us His best. Noah provoked divine blessings on the earth instead of curses and death. His sacrifices made God change His mind.

Noah’s obedience to God saved him and his family with some animals. If we want to see the deliverance of the Lord, we must be obedient to His word and serve Him in our generation.

Take Action: Ask God to make you obedient to His word to see His salvation.
