One Man Can Make A Difference

Scripture: Genesis 12

God doesn’t need many people to fulfill His redemptive plan. He makes His selection and empowers them for what is ahead. Out of Adam came everyone. Out of Noah came all the people after the flood. He called Abraham from the lineage of Noah to use him as His point of blessing for the whole human race. His ability to do what He intends to do cannot be frustrated by any man or demonic agents. He chose Abraham alone and spoke promises to him concerning the future.

We can learn three important lessons from this chapter:

#1. God chooses whom to use for His purposes. (Genesis 12:1-9)

The foremost lesson we can learn is that God does not select people we human beings will consider as having extraordinary talents and abilities. He chooses people and qualifies them for His mission. 1 Corinthians 1:26 says He does not use the wise, mighty nor the noble. He chose Abraham and gave him unbelievable promises. For a man who did not have a child, God said He will make him the father of many nations. For a man who had not seen Canaan yet, God said He will give it to him and his descendants. For a man who was not known, He said He will make his name great. What awesome promises. He can choose you and give you promises He can fulfill.

#2. We must obey God and follow His instructions. (Genesis 12:4-9)

By faith, Abraham believed God’s promises and moved as was commanded. He departed with his family and properties. If someone had met Abraham and asked him where he was going, he would have said this: God said He will give me plenty of children, land and I will determine everyone’s blessings. Incredible! It takes faith to follow God with everything. It takes faith to worship Him and honour His clear voice you hear. Notice that Abraham was a true worshiper. When God appeared to him again, he built an altar to Him to show His faith and allegiance to Him. What do you strongly sense that God is directing you to do? Trust Him and make a move. He who loves God obeys His word.

#3. God protects those who trust in Him. (Genesis 12:10-20)

The last lesson we can learn is that even though Abraham was scared to disclose his true relationship with Sarah as his wife because the Egyptians could snatch her from him, God still protected him and his marriage from the Pharaoh who took his wife. Remember that in His promises to Abraham, God said He will bless those who bless him and curse those who curse him. If God be for us, no one can be against us and prosper. His promises are sure. He will protect our relationships from enemy attacks.

One man can make a difference that’s why God called Abraham and used him to reach the whole world. He wanted to bring man back into fellowship with Himself. He chose Abraham and honoured His promise to protect him from life’s predators. Since we are the seed of Abraham, what He did for Abraham can be done for us as well. Let’s trust Him and move at His word and we shall be shielded from enemies.

Take Action: Ask God to protect you from enemies on your journey.
