Prosperity In Hard Times

Genesis 30

No matter what kind of system prevails, God’s plan will not fail in the life of the righteous. Jacob found himself with a cunning uncle who kept changing his reward system yet he continued being fruitful because the Lord was with him. You remember that in Genesis 26, Isaac prospered even with famine in the land. If God be for us, no one can be against us. What God has said is what will happen and not the contrary wind.

What can we take away?

#1. God grants us fruitfulness. (Genesis 30:1-24)

God was with Jacob because He promised to be with him on his journey when he got to Bethel. His word is sure. God honours His word. God’s presence made Jacob a fruitful man. With two wives and servants, He gave birth to many more children. Whatever God says He is able to make it good. He told Abraham to make him a great nation and we see here how He is fulfilling that promise through Jacob and his family even in a harsh environment. Never doubt what our God is capable of doing.

#2. God gives us business ideas. (Genesis 30:25-43)

Not only did God give children to Jacob but He also gave him understanding and business ideas to be richer than his Uncle Laban. In Deuteronomy, the Bible says God gives us power to make wealth. After many years of dubious acts of his uncle against him, Jacob made a business proposal to his uncle and He agreed. The simple idea became overly successful to the envy of Laban. We must not rush to go ahead of God. We must put our trust in Him and see what He will do for us.

God has a pattern for the patriarchs – they gave birth under barren conditions and prospered in crisis times. It was God with them that made them prosper and not their own power.

Take Action: Bless God for your prosperity in crisis.
