Back To The Place Of God

Genesis 35

On his way to Laban’s place, God appeared to Jacob and made promises to him (Genesis 28:10-22). God appeared to Jacob again in this chapter to direct him as to what to do. God chooses and directs His own to fulfill His will. He is faithful to the end.

What can we pick from this chapter?

#1. We must be obedient to the instructions of God. (Genesis 35:1-21)

God appeared to Jacob and gave him specific instructions on what to do. He obeyed and did what God asked him to do. If we want to fulfill God’s prophecy in our lives, we must be willing to obey Him and do whatever He says we must do. We cannot be disobedient to God and expect Him to bless and make us great. Obedience is a secret to walking with the Lord.

#2. God makes us fruitful. (Genesis 35:22–26)

Jacob went to his uncle’s place alone fearing his brother would kill him but he returned with many people and properties. The prophecy about his life to be the chosen of God to inherit the blessing of Abraham made him stand out to accomplish the plans of God. We are fashioned to be fruitful and multiply. Out of one person came many people to fulfill God’s plans for redemption. We must trust God to fulfill what He has planned to do with us.

#3. No man lives forever. (Genesis 35:27-29)

Isaac, Jacob’s father, died and was given a befitting burial. No human being lives on this earth forever. Isaac lived many years and gave up the ghost. The oldest man who ever lived had to bow out. Only God is eternal and everlasting. The rest of us have expiry dates on us. It also teaches us that only God is constant. We are not. We come and go but only God lives forever. Therefore, He can pick anyone to use for His great plans.

God’s plan for Jacob was to inherit the promised land and not any other place. He got him there. He is faithful to His promises.

Take Action: Pray that you will be obedient to the leading of God.
