Genesis 40
Joseph in prison was a fruitful servant of the Most High God. He discharged his duties and served fellow prisoners including interpreting their dreams. These simple acts will help him become free and serve in high places.
What can we learn from Genesis 40?
#1. Be concerned about other people’s problems. (Genesis 40:1-8a)
It is possible that when we find ourselves in low moments of life, we can shut in and close the door to other people. But that was not the attitude of Joseph. As a servant to the two officers of Pharaoh in prison, he identified they were not their usual selves and became concerned. They told him their problem: they dreamt but needed interpretation. Joseph was so confident to assure them that His God can help them. If we fail to be concerned about other people, God will not pour solutions into our lives to help them. When Nehemiah was concerned about the state of the Jews back home, he was granted the solution to the problem they were faced with.
#2. Never stop serving other people in any state of your life. (Genesis 40:8b-19)
Joseph was not only concerned but also offered interpretation to their dreams. They told their dreams to Joseph and he gave them correct interpretations. Ideas and solutions flow to people who are concerned about a particular matter of life. The more we focus on something, the more ideas we can have to resolve it. God granted Joseph solutions to the problems of the two officers.
#3. Doing good does not mean you will be immediately rewarded. (Genesis 40:20-23)
The last lesson we can take away is that doing good does not necessarily translate into immediate reward. The chief baker who was helped by Joseph totally forgot him after he was restored to his position even though Joseph hinted to him to help him. We must learn that people do not always pay us immediately we do good to people. God is our reward. Sometimes the opposite will happen to us when we do good. But in all that we must put our trust in the timing of God.
Joseph was forgotten by man but not forgotten by God. It was only a matter of time for him to be manifested through a solution he will provide. Never feel neglected. Your time will come.
Take Action: In moments when you feel neglected by men, always remember God is with you.
