Exodus 1-40
The book of Exodus is the second book of Moses which is aimed at teaching Israel that the God who came down to deliver them can also dwell with them as they serve Him faithfully. God redeems, provides, protects and dwells with His children.
Entering the book of Exodus, you must be mindful of three main parts of the book to help you understand its details.
#1. REDEMPTION: God redeems His chosen people from bondage of the enemy. (Exodus 1-18)
The first part of Exodus we must seek to understand is God coming down to redeem His people with a strong hand from Egyptian slavery. He prophesied in Genesis 15 that Abraham’s descendants will go into slavery in a foreign land and afterwards receive favour and head for the promised land. God redeems us from darkness into light. He turns us from the kingdom of satan to the kingdom of Christ Jesus. Christ ultimately redeems us with His own blood and not that of bulls and goats. We are so precious to God.
#2. WORD: God gives His laws to His people to live before Him blameless. (Exodus 19-24)
The second part of Exodus takes a look at God’s law given to His redeemed people to make them live unique from the other peoples of the earth. He wanted them to walk before Him blameless like what He told Abraham. All the over 600 laws touched every aspect of their lives to help them live like children of God and not slaves of Pharaoh. The epistle of James says that when we continually look into the perfect law of liberty, we shall be changed into the likeness of Christ. God’s word makes us pure.
#3. PRESENCE: God dwells with His people in the beauty of holiness. (Exodus 25-40)
The third and final part of the book of Exodus is to drum home the fact that God, who made the heavens and the earth, seeks fellowship with His people. Hence, He instructed Moses to build the ark of the covenant to remind them of His presence with them as they journeyed to the promised land. In Genesis 3, when man sinned against God, He came in the cool of the day to fellowship with them. John 1 says the word became flesh and dwelt among us. God seeks fellowship with His people. He redeems us to be with us.
God has chosen His people before the foundations of the earth to redeem them and be with them forever. In the new dispensation, He dwells in us.
Take Action: Celebrate God for His power to save and equip us to properly worship Him.
