Exodus 3
The time was due for God to fulfill His promise of releasing the Jews to become a nation in their own promised land. How could this be unless they are let to go to serve God. But God needed Moses to be an empowered leader for this cause.
What can we learn?
#1. God calls us for His mission. (Exodus 3:1-3)
The first lesson we learn is that God used Moses’ local setting and working environment to attract him and turn to God’s direction. He uses the familiar in unfamiliar ways to attract our attention. Moses was enjoying his work but God stepped in to disturb His comfort zone. He had a higher purpose for him to pursue. You remember that when Jesus wanted to call Peter and his brother to full time ministry in the gospels, He used their boat to preach and then caused them to supernaturally catch a net breaking harvest that made Peter come kneeling down before the Master. When God wants our attention from our regular living, He uses the familiar in unfamiliar ways to catch our attention.
#2. God commissions us for His mission. (Exodus 3:4-10)
After Moses’ attention was grabbed, God spoke to him about the mission of sending him to Egypt to redeem His people from slavery. His mission was that His people will have to go to the promised land to serve Him. He heard their cry and came down to rescue them from bondage because of His covenant with Abraham. When the righteous cry to the Lord for help, He hears and responds in their favour. There is a day each one of us is commissioned by the Almighty God for His perfect mission on the earth. He chooses whom He wants to use.
#3. God empowers us for His mission. (Exodus 3:11-22)
The final lesson we learn here is that God empowered Moses to go forth and achieve the mission before him. God calls us and equips us for His agenda. Moses gave a number of excuses why he is not best fit for the job but God discountered them and empowered him to go and flourish. Our excuses cannot override the power of God to achieve what He wants us to do. No human weakness is beyond God’s ability to fix. He is the creator of man. He can fix what is wrong in any part of our body.
Just as God commissioned Jesus to die on the cross and save His people from their sins, He chose, commissioned and empowered Moses for the special task of freeing His people to serve Him.
