Exodus 6
When the battle is threatening for us, God takes it differently. Nothing can shake Him. Nothing can threaten Him. Absolutely nothing can hinder what He intends to do. When Moses came back with complaints, He gave him His word as the sword of the Spirit to go at it again. The greatest assurance we have from God is His promises.
What can we take away?
#1. God continually works on us for His mission. (Exodus 6:1-8)
After Moses had come to the Lord with failure on his hands, the Lord gave him a pep talk to get him ready for the next phase of the mission. If it does not work the first time, we must brace ourselves to go again. God told Moses what He intended to do with Pharoah to let the people go and then He situated His commitment to free His people in the covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. It was to tell Moses that it was not a light issue for Him. It was a big deal and His integrity was at stake. He told Moses to go and tell Pharaoh to let the people go. Moses had his own doubts but God was not ready for excuses. What God sees is not what we see. He is so committed to His mission that He will overhaul our mind to get us to do what we have to do.
#2. God uses ordinary men for His mission. (Exodus 6:9-13)
The writer then goes into a mode of tracing Moses and Aaron’s genealogy to demonstrate to us that God uses their own kindred people for His mission. He traced Moses and Aaron’s line of birth to tell us that these were not angels or people from the moon but the same people from the children of God He used for His mission. He calls ordinary people and equip them for His divine mission. He chose whom He wanted to use. He chose them so that the glory will not be claimed by any man but Himself. Just consider that Moses himself did not believe he was qualified but God chose and used him anyway.
#3. God equips us to go on the mission. (Exodus 6:14-30)
God reiterated His command to Moses to tell Pharaoh everything He told him to let the people go. The most powerful force every spokesperson of God has is His word in their mouth. Moses still complained about his limitation but God’s concern was for him to go forth and speak to Pharaoh. When Jeremiah complained about his inability to speak, God put His word in his mouth (Jeremiah 1). God’s word in our mouth is as powerful as in His own mouth. When in doubt, trust His word.
Human threats don’t stop God or cause Him to shake. Only He can shake the mountains. He drew the battle lines against Pharaoh to show him that He is God almighty.
Take Action: Think of the fact that God uses ordinary everyday people for His great work.
