God of multiple wonders

Exodus 8

As we noted in our lessons yesterday, the God we serve has power over every other human or spiritual power in heaven, on earth and under the waters. He demonstrated His power by turning water to blood. In this chapter, Pharaoh’s hardness of heart made the Lord bring untold troubles to him and all Egyptians. God unleashed the full force of controlling animals to turn against them to show that He has power over all creation to work for His purpose.

What can we learn?

#1. God has control over frogs. (Exodus 8:1-15)

The first wonder God did was to use frogs to disturb the daily routine of Pharaoh and his people. They became a nuisance in Egypt. Frogs appeared everywhere people were. The magicians attempted to conjure frogs but they could not overcome that of God. Pharaoh saw the threat of the frogs and called for Moses to entreat the Lord to let them go away so that he would let the people go. Once the frogs went away, he relented. A child of disobedience like Pharaoh acts in deception against God and his servants. The point here is that God knew everything Pharaoh wanted to do and He was prepared for him. God has control over every frog in the universe. He could have commanded them or created new ones to come to Egypt for the purpose He wanted to achieve. When our trust is in the Lord, He could even use frogs for our sake.

#2. God has control over lice. (Exodus 8:16-19)

The next supernatural display of power God did was to ask Aaron to point his rod at dust to turn to lice. Pharaoh’s disobedience led to the suffering of his people. The magicians tried but they could not bring lice. Here again, we learn that our God has power over every element of creation. He can turn any natural element for another purpose. Think of the fact that he used dust to make man and breathe life into him. He is able to turn dust to lice to disturb the enemies of His people. God Fights our battles for us. He can do what we cannot do for ourselves. When we leave our battles to Him, He will truly fight and win for us.

#3. God has control over flies. (Exodus 8:20-32)

The third harm God inflicted on Pharaoh and the land of Egypt was to release swarms of flies to torment Pharaoh, his servants and the people of the land. The Lord caused numerous of them to corrupt the land of Egypt but exempted His people who stayed in Goshen. Pharaoh could not contain the attack and therefore called Moses to renegotiate with him to pray to God to let the flies go. It was another deceptive arrangement of Pharaoh. After the plague left, he hardened his heart. God is able to control nature for His purpose. He caused the waters to produce swarms of lies to torment those who withheld His people from going to serve Him. If you are under any form of bondage, cry to the Lord to supernaturally step in your case. He is well able.

Our God is a man of war. When He declares war He watches over it to bring it to pass. He started and continued the crusade against Pharaoh and Egypt. Until He brings a matter to conclusion, nothing would stop Him.

Take Action: Invite the Lord to fight your enemies who are taking hold of your life.
