Exodus 10
God released the two sets of plagues after Pharaoh still hardened his heart not to let God’s people go and serve Him. He will not let Satan bind His people forever. When He allowed it for them to be mistreated that was their field day but not now. These sets of plagues show us that God is Lord over locust and darkness. He can choose to use them for His purposes.
What can we learn?
#1. Lord over locusts. (Exodus 10:1-20)
The 8th plague that God released to harm the land of Egypt, Pharaoh and his servants was locusts. As a merciful God, He asked Moses to tell Pharaoh what He was about to do if he failed to let His people go. Pharaoh reneged and Moses stretched his hand over Egypt to bring forth the locusts to eat what was left on the field and fill their houses. Pharaoh pleaded for mercy, Moses interceded and God did away with the locusts but Pharaoh proved stubborn again. For this particular plague, God told Moses that He wanted the Jews to have it as a testimony to tell their children that the Lord is God. Where did the locusts come from? Answer: God is all-powerful to command anything to happen and it will happen. There is nothing that can hinder His supernatural abilities.
#2. God is in control of darkness. (Exodus 10:21-29)
Pharaoh’s hardness of heart made the Lord to unleash the 9th plague on him and Egypt. A thick darkness that could be felt hit Egypt for three days that made life unbearable but Israelites in Goshen were once again exempted from the wrath of God. In haste, Pharaoh asked Moses to lead the people out to go and sacrifice to God without their livestock but Moses rejected the offer and insisted that they will go with all their people and properties. God hardened Pharaoh’s heart and he angrily sacked Moses and Aaron with threats of death. God is Lord over light and darkness. He made light in Genesis 1 and in Exodus 10, He demonstrated that He controls it. He can use creation for His own purposes.
God will stop at nothing to release His people from the bondage of the enemy. He becomes a terror to those who take hold of His people. Colossians 3 says that Christ disarmed the powers of the enemy and made public show of it.
Take Action: Bless the Lord for His mighty works done in your life.
