God saves us

Exodus 14

God sees the end from the beginning. All these while when Pharaoh was proving stubborn against Him, He knew their fatal end. Each block of what He did to them was to gain honour over them so that His people will revere Him and trust in Him. To totally vanquish Egyptians rule over Israel, God caused the Egyptians to come after His people and then He overthrew them in the sea. He saves His people to the uttermost. Nothing can hinder what He wills to do for His people.

There are five lessons we can learn from how God saved Israel in this chapter and how He can save each one of us in trouble when walking with Him:

#1. God’s promise to defeat Pharaoh and his army. (Exodus 14:1-4)

God spoke to Moses about what He intended to do with Pharoah so that He will end his influence on the Jews. Pharaoh thought He had absolute control over God’s people. He forgot that it was God’s plan for them to come to Egypt and leave at the right time. His promise to His ordained leader was that He will defeat Pharaoh and his sophisticated army. He therefore commanded His people to camp at Pi Hahiroth. Moses did not know what God had planned until He told him. The secret things belong to the Lord until He tells His prophets.

#2. Pharaoh’s pursuit of Israel. (Exodus 14:5-9)

Pharaoh and his servants changed their mind after letting Israel go to bring them back into slavery. Some people think they have hold of your life forever. They feel they were created to dominate you forever. Hence, Pharaoh and his army decided to pursued Israel to recapture them. And God hardened the heart of Pharaoh to continue in his sin. Satan and his cohorts never leave God’s people who have been redeemed from their control. Paul says in Ephesians 6 that Satan uses crafitness to deceive God’s people. He goes to and fro looking for whom to deceive and control. He is still on our case to cause us to fall.

#3. Israel’s panic and fear. (Exodus 14:10-12)

The reaction of the children of Israel was to panic and fear when they saw the Egyptian army pursuing them with their sophisticated weaponry. In the natural, they feared because they saw what they have that they do not have. They feared because they were seeing by the naked eyes. They were not walking by faith. They were using their senses to judge what was happening. They forgot who was with them. When we walk in the flesh, we experience depression and loss of hope at the coming of the enemy.

#4. Moses’ encouragements to Israel. (Exodus 14:13-14)

The next thing that happened was that Moses encouraged the children of the Lord not to fear. He told them to standstill and see the salvation of the Lord. Why did Moses say that? Because in verses 1-4, God told him He will win over Pharaoh. Moses knew what Israel did not know. God revealed His plans to him. When we know God’s promises of assurance, we stand strong in the power of His might. We do not panic and fret. When we stand on the promises of the Lord, we are confident of what God will do to the enemies of soul.

#5. God’s preservation of His people and defeating Egypt. (Exodus 14:15-31)

The last thing we see is God’s intervention that lead to protection of His people and defeat of the Egyptians. He told Moses to part the Red Sea for Israel to walk through on dry ground and then drown the Egyptian army. Just as He predicted, He won over Pharaoh and his army. God is a man of war who never loses any battle. He fatally defeated the enemies of His people. Trust in the Lord to overthrow whatever is pursuing you in life and He will deal with it.

God has a way of defeating our enemies to display His Lordship over all. Nebuchadnezzar said there is none like Him (Daniel 3:29).

Take Action: Thank God for His deliverance of your life from evil destruction.
