Exodus 28
Just when God introduced the priests into the picture of what they ought to do in the tabernacle, He comes to their calling and what must be prepared for them to do their work.
What can we learn from this chapter?
#1. God calls and robes for special work. (Exodus 28:1-4)
God called Aaron and his children to serve before the Lord as priests. He also gave directives on how to cloth them to be consecrated before God in their service. The calling goes with the way we live and appear before God. God calls and empowers people to serve before Him in utmost righteousness. He doesn’t want them to serve anyhow.
#2. The making of the ephod. (Exodus 28:5-14)
The next thing God instructed Moses to let the people do for the priests is to prepare the ephod for the high priest – Aaron. He commissioned it, He told them what to use and how to make it. He further gave him instructions on putting the names of all the tribes of Israel on the ephod. It’s clear that God calls specific people for special assignments and equips them to do it. He called Aaron and equipped him to execute his work.
#3. The making of the breastplate of judgment. (Exodus 28:15-30)
God spoke to them about the making of the breastplate of judgment to be worn by Aaron when he comes before Him. He told them what to use and how to make it to His specifications. When Aaron bears the judgment of the congregation, it seeks the mercy of God. He stood in for the children of Israel.
#4. The making of other priestly garments. (Exodus 28:31-43)
The final thing God instructed Moses for His people to do is to make assorted priestly garments for them to wear so that they do not die when they come before the Lord. When we do not wear what God wants to wear, we risk incurring His wrath. Here again, He told them what to use and how to make them. If we really want to function very well before the Lord, we must follow His pattern for doing what He wants us to do.
God wants His people to follow His instructions to bear much fruit. If they followed His directives to do what He told Moses, it would go a long way to help them walk faithfully before Him.
Take Action: Do not neglect the instructions of the Lord.
