5 Biblical Reasons Why You Must Regularly Attend Sunday Church Service

Introduction

Belonging to a thriving church and regularly attending Sunday Service offers numerous spiritual benefits. The writer of Hebrews urges us not to forsake the gathering of saints as the last days approach. Our love for God is demonstrated through our willingness to meet with other believers to pray, worship, praise, and adore Him.

If you feel reluctant to attend church service, here are some reasons to encourage you:

1. Exhort One Another

One key reason to attend Sunday worship service is to exhort one another. To exhort means to strongly encourage others to do something. Hebrews 10 teaches us to stir one another to good works. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 urges us to encourage and build one another, and Colossians 3:16 says we must admonish one another.

While technology allows us to connect without being physically present, Scripture emphasizes the importance of in-person gatherings. Face-to-face meetings allow us to discern people’s issues and encourage them more effectively.

2. Pray for One Another

Another reason to attend worship service is to pray for one another. In our busy lives, we often focus on our own needs and forget to pray for others. During worship service, prayers are offered for fellow believers and even non-believers, allowing us to intercede for God’s intervention in their lives. By missing service, you miss valuable opportunities to pray for others.

3. Love One Another

Attending worship service allows us to love one another in the beauty of holiness. Imagine serving in a church department with someone from a different background who is in need of love. Showing them affectionate, agape love can fill a void in their lives because of the Holy Spirit’s presence in you. If we fail to attend church, how can we demonstrate love to those who need it?

4. Serve One Another

We must make time to go to the house of the Lord to serve other saints. Jesus taught His disciples to serve one another, as He did by washing their feet (John 13:14-15). Serving in church—whether by helping to park cars or ushering people—enables you to fulfill God’s command to serve His children.

5. Help One Another

Attending church services allows us to help one another in times of need. Needs vary: one person may be trusting God for a new shoe, while another is believing for a scholarship. You might not have money for a new shoe, but you could give an extra pair you have. Attending services helps us identify and meet needs, fostering a community with zero tolerance for poverty if we walk in the Spirit and are led by Him.

Conclusion

Church service is a weekly necessity for every believer. We should also join other believers on other days of the week to worship our Maker. If you ever feel lazy about attending church, remember that you might be depriving someone of the care they need from you as a member of the body of Christ. David said in the Psalms that he was glad when they said to him, “Let us go to the house of the Lord” (Psalm 122:1).
