Introduction
There is a generation of gospel preaching pioneers in Ghana who will forever leave their footprints in the sands of time. One person who cannot be left out of this list of individuals who have dedicated their lives to God’s kingdom work is Archbishop Charles Agyinasare.
The Archbishop did not only start and grow Perez Chapel International from Ghana to the rest of the world, he also established Perez University and Precious TV. He is a bestselling author of spiritually inspired books that have impacted numerous lives around the world.
Background
It is astonishing to think that this man, who has been tremendously used by God to heal the sick, win souls, and raise pastors, was once a weed smoker and womanizer.
In the movie “I Heard From Heaven,” based on the life of the Archbishop, he was depicted as a wayward boy who was introduced to smoking in Senior High School and later became addicted. He was involved in all manner of sinful lifestyles until a girl he was chasing led him to her church, where he was touched by the power of God and became a born-again Christian.
Lessons
What are the useful lessons we can learn from the life and ministry of Archbishop Charles Agyinasare to help us become fruitful in ministry and other endeavors?
1. The Lord Can Turn Around a Broken Life
The first lesson we learn from the life and ministry of the Archbishop is that God can transform a sinful life into one of righteousness. In his biography on Wikipedia, we learn that “he was a ‘women-chasing college freak’ who got caught up in what he calls ‘sin, revelry, alcoholism, and drug addiction’ and ‘a life of smoking, truancy, chasing girls, using hard drugs, night-clubbing, and stints with various occult associations.’ He was later expelled from St. Martin’s.” There is no life so rotten that the blood of the Lord cannot save and make clean. The Bible says that without Him, we can do nothing.
2. Each One of Us Has a Special Calling and Ministry
When the Archbishop became born again, he started moving from place to place to preach the gospel of Christ. He never knew he had the gift of healing until one day he saw someone having a seizure. He approached, prayed for the person, and the person was healed. Prior to this experience, he had been in a period of prayer and fasting, trusting God to enable him to perform miraculous acts like those in the Bible. This is a significant lesson for everyone: God has given each of us a gift, ability, talent, or idea that can bring about a major solution in the lives of others. We must find and use it.
3. You Must Train in Your Area of Calling to Be Effective
The third lesson we learn from his life is that we must receive training to become effective in our endeavors. When he realized his passion for healing crusades, the Archbishop enrolled in a crusade planning course under the leadership of Benson Idahosa in Benin City, Nigeria. This training helped him bring structure and thoughtfulness to his ministry, allowing the Spirit of God to move mightily. Gospel ministry is not opposed to training; proper training helps us do our work well.
4. Expand Your Work into Other Related Fields to Touch More Lives
As noted in the introduction, the Archbishop not only started and grew Perez Chapel but also ventured into media with the establishment of Precious TV, education with the founding of Perez University, and authoring numerous books. All these endeavors have further impacted lives globally. It is not enough to be fruitful in one area; we must learn from others and do greater works by expanding into related fields to touch more lives.
5. Learn from Others Ahead of You
We must learn from our mentors and role models to excel in our chosen fields. In his early days, the Archbishop absorbed the works of A.W. Tozer, Andrew Murray, Charles Finney, and R.A. Torrey. He also received close mentorship from the late Dr. Morris Cerullo. Mentors who have excelled in their areas of calling and are passionate about serving can provide valuable lessons. We must learn from others to succeed.
6. Train Others to Continue the Work
There is a wise saying: success without a successor is failure. Joshua succeeded Moses; Elijah was succeeded by Elisha. The Archbishop has trained many ministers who are now doing well in their own right. He has two sons actively serving in ministry, as well as many men and women in Perez Chapel and other churches who have benefited from his wisdom and experience. If this generation could be humble enough to learn from these fathers, we would achieve even more than they have.
Conclusion

God is always ready to work with men and women who are willing to do His will. His power is still available to touch lives through vessels consecrated to Him. The life of Archbishop Agyinasare teaches us to give our hearts to God, allowing His glory to shine through us.
