What is Man? God’s Impartation of Man to Fulfill His Purpose

From the dawn of creation, humanity has been imbued with a divine purpose and endowed with unique attributes that reflect the very image of God. 

The Bible, specifically in Genesis 1:26-28, provides a profound insight into God’s intentions for mankind. These verses not only recount the creation of man but also underscore the significant responsibilities and blessings imparted to humanity. 

This article looks into the nature of mankind as created by God, the blessings bestowed upon us, and the commandments given to us, aiming to shed light on how we can find and fulfill our divine purpose.

What is Man?

The concept of man’s creation is encapsulated beautifully in Genesis 1:26-28 (NKJV): “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.'”

This passage reveals that man is a reflection of God’s image and likeness, equipped with the capacity to rule and steward the earth. The creation of man was a deliberate act by God, signifying our intrinsic value and purpose. 

Unlike other creations, man was given a unique mandate to have dominion over all living things, establishing our role as caretakers of the earth.

Impartation

Impartation, both in its dictionary and biblical sense, involves the transfer of something valuable from one person to another. 

Biblically, it refers to the transfer of anointing or blessing from one individual to another, empowering them for ministry and effective service.

God’s Blessing Upon Man

The first act of God after creating man was to bless them. To bless, according to Nelson’s Illustrated Bible Dictionary, is to declare or wish God’s favor and goodness upon others, with the inherent power to bring those declarations to pass.

In Genesis 27, we see Isaac blessing Jacob, and in Genesis 49, Jacob blesses his children. In the New Testament, Jesus blesses His disciples in Luke 24:50-52. These blessings are not mere words but carry the power to transform and enable the recipients to fulfill their divine purposes.

Proverbs 10:22 states: “The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.”

Similarly, Ephesians 1:3 emphasizes: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.”

These scriptures affirm that we, as believers, are inherently blessed. This blessing is a divine empowerment, equipping us to succeed in our God-given mandates. It signifies that we start and end with blessing and victory, setting a foundation for a life aligned with God’s purposes.

God’s Commandments to Man

After blessing mankind, God provided specific commandments outlining how to fulfill our earthly mandate. These commandments serve as a blueprint for living a life that aligns with God’s intentions.

1. Be Fruitful

To be fruitful means to produce good results or to be productive. This command implies that we should strive to bring forth positive outcomes in all areas of our lives, be it spiritually, physically, or socially.

2. Multiply

Genesis 1:22 emphasizes the importance of multiplication. This commandment encourages us to reproduce and expand, not just biologically but also in terms of influence and impact.

3. Fill the Earth

God’s directive to fill the earth extends beyond mere population growth. It involves spreading God’s presence, values, and principles across the globe.

4. Subdue the Earth

To subdue means to bring under control. This commandment speaks to our responsibility to manage and steward the earth’s resources wisely, ensuring that they are used in ways that honor God.

5. Have Dominion

The mandate to have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and every living thing on earth reinforces our role as stewards. We are called to exercise authority with responsibility, ensuring that all creation flourishes under our care.

Genesis 9:1 reiterates these commandments to Noah and his sons after the flood: “So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: ‘Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.'”

This repetition underscores the enduring nature of these commandments, highlighting their relevance across generations.
