How the Holy Spirit Inspired ‘Di Asa’ TV Show to Mr. Samuel Amo Tobbin

Introduction

In an intriguing revelation on the ‘What Is Next?’ programme on GTV, Mr. Samuel Amo Tobin, Chairman of the Tobinco Group of Companies  and an elder of the Church of Pentecost, shared the fascinating story behind the creation of the popular dance TV show, ‘Di Asa,’ on Atinka TV.

During an interview with host Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni Frimpong, Mr. Tobin described how a divine encounter at a funeral inspired him to launch a show that celebrates plus-size women and empowers them to embrace their bodies through dance.

The Divine Spark at a Funeral

Mr. Tobin recounted a life-changing moment that occurred after a Sunday church service. “I closed from church one Sunday afternoon. I was at a funeral thanksgiving at a place,” he began. As he was about to take off his suit, he noticed a woman dancing energetically at the event.

“The woman was not a fat woman, a very slim woman, but she was a market woman,” he noted. It was in this ordinary moment that Mr. Tobin experienced an extraordinary prompting.

“When I was watching the woman, then the Holy Ghost told me that, look, this woman dancing… everyone is watching this woman,” he recalled. This observation sparked a divine idea that would soon revolutionize entertainment on Ghanaian television.

A Vision for the Rejected and Overlooked

The Holy Spirit conveyed a powerful message to Mr. Tobin, urging him to focus on those often marginalized by society—plus-size women. “The Holy Ghost told me… Take fat people. Fat people are being rejected, not being respected… Pick people from marketplaces. There are people that are being rejected,” he explained.

The idea was clear: to provide a platform where plus-size women, especially those from the markets, could showcase their talent and be celebrated. This inspiration was both revolutionary and inclusive, aligning with a vision to uplift and empower.

Birth of ‘Di Asa’

Fueled by this divine instruction, Mr. Tobin wasted no time. “As soon as I heard this, I called, I went to… my people. Come. The Holy Ghost has told me something. I want us to do it now,” he shared with enthusiasm.

The concept for ‘Di Asa’ quickly took shape, and the team brainstormed the perfect name for the show. “This one said Diasa, I said, Diasa, yes, Diasa. Because when I say Diasa, then they say, shake body,” Mr. Tobin laughed. The show, meaning “dance” in Twi, soon became a sensation.

Impact and Reception

Since its inception, ‘Di Asa’ has become a cultural phenomenon, drawing significant viewership and positive acclaim. “The Holy Ghost brought this and I brought it out… amazingly, look at the crowd, the eyeballs. Even bishops, presidents watch my Diasa,” Mr. Tobin proudly stated.

By giving a platform to those often overlooked, ‘Di Asa’ has not only entertained but also challenged societal perceptions, proving that beauty and talent come in all shapes and sizes.

Conclusion

The story behind ‘Di Asa’ attest to the power of divine inspiration in everyday life.

Mr. Samuel Amo Tobin’s experience shows how the Holy Spirit can guide believers to create impactful and transformative initiatives. ‘Di Asa’ is more than just a dance show; it is a celebration of diversity, inclusion, and the power of the human spirit.

As Mr. Tobin’s story illustrates, when one is open to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, the possibilities are limitless.
