‘Called & Anointed’: A Sunday Service Sermon by Rev. Albert Ocran

2–3 minutes

Introduction

In a sermon delivered at ICGC New Wine Temple in East Legon, Rev. Albert Ocran shared profound insights on the topic “Called and Anointed: Discovering Your Divine Purpose.”

This message serves as a reminder that every believer has a unique calling from God, regardless of their profession or position in life.

God Calls Us by Name

Rev. Ocran emphasized that it is God who calls us, not humans. He stated, “Whatever you do, whether you do it here in church, or you do it in your law firm, or you do it in your business office, it is God who called you and God who appointed you”. This understanding changes our perspective on work and service.

The pastor highlighted the personal nature of God’s calling, referencing the biblical account of Bezalel: “God calls us by name. He calls us by name”. He explained that God’s call is so specific that there can be no doubt about who is being called, even mentioning one’s lineage and hometown to avoid confusion.

Diverse Callings, Equal Value

A crucial point in the sermon was the diversity of callings. Rev. Ocran cautioned against despising or undervaluing certain ministries or professions. He said, “Be careful not to despise what God has called somebody else to do. Be careful not to look down on the ministry that God has planted in the heart of someone”.

He emphasized that all work done for God is valuable, stating, “The same God who called the pastor also called the usher”. This perspective encourages believers to find their unique contribution to God’s work.

Serving God in Everything

The final key point was the importance of doing everything as unto God. Rev. Ocran quoted Colossians 3:23-24, emphasizing, “Whatever you do means whatever you do at home, whatever you do at work, whatever you do in the community, whatever you do at church, whatever you do in the trotter, or the taxi, or the Uber”.

This approach to service and work elevates even seemingly mundane tasks to acts of worship and obedience to God.

Discovering Your Calling

Rev. Ocran provided practical advice for discovering one’s calling:

1. Reflect on your strengths, knowledge, and experiences.

2. Consider what brings you joy or what frustrates you.

3. Offer your skills to address needs you observe.

He encouraged listeners, saying, “Don’t let us annoy you. If you see something in church and you don’t like it, offer yourself to help us solve it”.

Conclusion

Rev. Albert Ocran’s sermon serves as a powerful reminder that every believer is called and anointed by God for a specific purpose. By recognizing God’s personal call, embracing the diversity of callings, and approaching all tasks as service to God, believers can find fulfillment and purpose in their daily lives.

The message challenges us to look beyond traditional notions of ministry and recognize that all work done for God’s glory is valuable. As we discover and embrace our unique callings, we can contribute meaningfully to God’s work in the world, regardless of our profession or position.
