At ICGC Christ Temple East, Accra, Pastor Mensa Otabil, the General Overseer of ICGC, delivered a thought-provoking message on the topic “Take Bold Steps (1),” where he addressed the superficial boldness many people exhibit online.
“Most people’s boldness is on Facebook,” Pastor Otabil remarked. “When they register a false name, then they are bold to say what they want to say, but the moment you find them, they are very timid.”
Pastor Otabil likened this behaviour to the false courage demonstrated by groups during protests, noting how quickly confidence fades when individuals are singled out.
“Many of us only have boldness when we are in a group, but we are never bold as individuals,” he stated, emphasising that life’s challenges are personal, not collective. “Life will not attack you in a group. Your problems are not group problems. Your problems are individual, personal problems.”
He urged his congregation to embrace true boldness, which stems from personal encounters with God.
Drawing from the story of the Israelites after the Passover, Pastor Otabil highlighted how witnessing God’s power firsthand should inspire unshakable courage. “After you’ve had an experience with God, you must be bold,” he declared.
Pastor Otabil concluded by encouraging believers to act boldly after experiencing divine visitation, stressing that genuine boldness comes from a deep, personal connection with God, not from the safety of a crowd.
