Ham: Our Deeds Can Have Effects On Our Descendants

2–4 minutes

The sun had barely risen over the horizon when Ham, son of Noah, stepped forward to share his story. His eyes, filled with a mixture of regret and wisdom, scanned the attentive audience before him.

“What does it take to have adult children?” Ham began, his voice steady but tinged with reflection. “Obviously, it takes a lot. Finding a spouse, the miracle of pregnancy, nine months of anticipation, and years of nurturing. It’s a full-time commitment to guide a child into adulthood.”

He paused, taking a deep breath before continuing. “But my story isn’t about raising children. It’s about the weight our actions carry, even long after we’re gone.”

The Ark and The Flood

“I remember the day clearly,” Ham recounted, his gaze distant. “My father, Noah, came home with an unbelievable tale. He said God had spoken to him, instructing him to build an ark. Not just any ark, mind you, but one large enough to house our entire family and pairs of every animal.”

A wry smile played on Ham’s lips. “I’ll admit, my first thought was to question what this old man had been drinking. But we knew our father. He was a man who had lived his entire life in reverence to God. How could we doubt him?”

Ham’s voice grew somber. “So we built the ark. The floods came, just as God had warned. And when the waters receded, we emerged into a world reborn.”

The Incident

Ham’s demeanor changed, his shoulders tensing as he approached the heart of his story. “One day, not long after we’d settled on dry land, I stumbled upon a sight that would change everything. My father, the righteous Noah, had indulged in the fruit of his newly planted vineyard. He lay in his tent, naked and intoxicated.”

Regret clouded Ham’s features. “In that moment, I made a choice that would echo through generations. Instead of quietly covering my father’s shame, I called my brothers to witness his fall. ‘Come see!’ I cried. ‘The most righteous man has fallen into drunkenness!'”

The Consequences

“When my father awoke and learned what had transpired, his response was swift and severe. He cursed not me, but my son Canaan and his descendants. Meanwhile, he blessed my brothers, Shem and Japheth, for their discretion in covering his nakedness.”

Ham’s voice cracked with emotion. “In my thoughtlessness, I had set in motion a chain of events that would affect not just me, but countless generations to come.”

Lessons Learned

Looking up, Ham addressed the audience directly. “Our world today isn’t so different. Many young people lack mercy towards their elders. They’re quick to criticize, to expose weaknesses, to decry behaviors they deem unacceptable. But we must remember the words of the Apostle Paul to the Galatians: ‘Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ’ (Galatians 6:2).”

Ham’s voice grew stronger, filled with the wisdom of hard-learned lessons. “Honor the old folks. Show mercy to those who stumble. For in doing so, we not only fulfill God’s law but also sow seeds of blessing for our own descendants.”

As Ham concluded his tale, a hush fell over the audience. His story served as a powerful reminder that our actions, however small they may seem, can ripple through time, affecting not just our immediate circle but generations yet unborn.

“May we all learn to walk in wisdom,” Ham said softly, “remembering that our deeds today shape the world of tomorrow.”
