Life is not about possessions but contributions – Bishop David Oyedepo

1–2 minutes

Bishop David Oyedepo’s 70th birthday Praise Night was filled with profound reflections, but one of the most striking moments was when he emphasised that life is not about possessions but contributions.

The founder of Winners Chapel International said, “Nobody will remember you for what you have, but for what you add.” Drawing from his experiences, he stressed the importance of focusing on what one gives to others, not on accumulating material wealth.

“Young people, don’t be possession-driven. It’s those who think of others who become leaders,” he remarked passionately, urging the younger generation to shift their mindset from self-seeking desires to selfless service.

He noted that during the numerous tributes, no one mentioned his cars, planes, or houses. Instead, people spoke of the lives he had impacted.

“Your legacy is not in a name placed on a building. It’s in the lives of people,” he concluded, reinforcing the idea that true success is measured by the value one adds to others’ lives, not by what one owns.

His words resounded as a call to action: “Be contribution-driven. Possession has no value.”
