How E’mPraise Inc. Started and Became an Industry Leader

1–2 minutes

In a recent interview on the inaugural episode of Selah, Martinson Gyimah shared the inspiring story of the inception of the E’mPraise Inc. gospel music programme with host, Donald Quao.

The programme, which has become a significant influence in the gospel music scene, was born out of a desire to transcend denominational boundaries and create a platform for musical expression and spiritual outreach.

Gyimah, a seasoned musician and music producer, recounted how E’mPraise began in his home with three other key individuals. “There were four people actually who built this,” he explained.

The group initially faced challenges within their church environment, which motivated them to establish a non-denominational music group. “We had a pastor who had so much issues with the music ministry,” Gyimah noted, highlighting the initial resistance they encountered.

The founding members sought to create something that would not only enhance their musical abilities but also serve as a blessing to the wider community.

Through prayer and discussion, they decided to form a music group that would be open to musicians from various backgrounds. Gyimah emphasised their intention to “be a blessing to the entire world” through their music.

The programme gained momentum when Gyimah met Pastor Eugene Zuta at the University of Cape Coast, who later became the first president of E’mPraise.

This partnership helped solidify the group’s mission and expand its reach. Over time, E’mPraise evolved into a vibrant community of musicians committed to spreading the gospel through music.

Reflecting on the journey, Gyimah acknowledged the challenges they faced, particularly in gaining acceptance for pursuing music as a full-time vocation.

Despite these obstacles, he remained steadfast in his calling. “Somehow deep within me, I knew that this is what I wanted to do,” he stated.

Today, E’mPraise stands as a testament to the power of faith and perseverance in overcoming adversity and fulfilling one’s divine purpose.

The programme continues to inspire and uplift audiences both locally and internationally, driven by its foundational principles of obedience and dedication to God’s work.
