Joyce Meyer Shares Journey of Teaching Bible Studies for Six Years Before Entering Global Ministry

During a sermon on TBN titled Find Value in Every Season of Life, renowned Christian speaker and author Joyce Meyer revealed details of her humble beginnings in ministry, stressing the importance of patience and trust in God’s timing.

Reflecting on her early years, Meyer shared that before her global ministry took off, she spent six years faithfully teaching Bible studies in her home to a small group of around 20 to 30 people.

“I thought for sure I would fall out of bed the next morning and be travelling around the world,” Meyer confessed, recalling her initial excitement after receiving God’s calling.

However, she was met with years of seemingly small beginnings. “For six years, I taught a home Bible study…not five days, not five weeks, not five months, five years,” she emphasised, underscoring the length of time she dedicated to serving in her local community without pay despite facing personal financial struggles.

Through these years of teaching small groups, Meyer said that God was preparing her for greater responsibilities by refining her character. “God was teaching me or trying to teach me a little something about attitude and servanthood,” she explained.

She acknowledged that while she was initially eager to move into larger ministry roles, God used those early years to build her spiritual maturity. “You’re going to stay right where you’re at until you learn the lesson that God wants you to learn on this level,” she noted.

Meyer also spoke candidly about the importance of trusting God’s timing, even when it feels like doors are not opening. “What do you do when God doesn’t pick you? You trust God… that it’s not time yet, it’s not right yet, and you might even be willing to think maybe I’m not ready,” she encouraged.

Her message highlighted that spiritual growth and readiness for larger assignments come with experience and patience. “Don’t be in such a hurry about getting what you want and going where you’re going,” she advised. “Take time to learn the things you need to learn so when you get where you’re going, you’ll be able to stay there.”

Meyer’s reflections offer a powerful reminder to value each season of life and trust that God is working behind the scenes, even when progress seems slow.
