Lot’s Wife: Half Obedience Is Not Obedience

1–2 minutes

In the land of Sodom and Gomorrah were a people much like those of Noah’s time. They were given to sin including that of sex immorality. Their deeds were so sinful that the Bible says God sent His angels to verify the claims against them. It wasn’t a lack of knowledge on God’s part just to prove to them that they were that debased.

As the crowd clapped to welcome Mrs. Lot, she sat down because of her old age. She was nearing her 90th birthday and really desiring to clock 100 to the glory of God. “I messed up,” she said in her first words to open her presentation.

Mrs. Lot and her husband had girls they had trained in the fear of the Lord. irrespective of the sexual revolution in Sodom, they were still virgins when the angels visited.

Mrs. Lot cleared her throat and continued her talk. People were in complete silence to learn from this woman who interfaced with Abraham and Sarah, the great people of faith.

“Sodom and Gomorrah was much like hell. There is no day you will miss the news of one bad deed or the other. The heart of men and women had become so debased that they lived sin and hated righteousness,” Mrs. Lot narrated. “The day the angels came, we were the inky household who entertained them. We noticed they were special people having divine backing.”

The weight of the regret from her was so intense that she started sobbing and filled her two palms with her weeping. “I am sorry I should have just looked ahead and obeyed the instructions of the angels. I rather looked back knowing the assets, relationships and fondness were leaving behind,” she continued.

The end result was that Mrs. Lot turned into a pillar of salt. She obeyed command to relocate but along the line, disobeyed the orders. It is better not to obey than to obey half heartedly. Mrs. Lot teaches us that when we want to walk with God, we must be all out for Him. We must not be selective in our obedience to Him.
