Bishop T. D. Jakes Reflects on Emergency Surgery and God’s Faithfulness

2–3 minutes

Bishop T. D. Jakes, founder of The Potter’s House, delivered an emotional and inspiring pre-recorded message to his congregation on Sunday, sharing details of his recent health crisis and miraculous recovery.

The message was played during the church service following his emergency surgery and hospitalization in the ICU.

“Many of you don’t realize that you’re looking at a miracle,” Bishop Jakes began, expressing gratitude for the support of his church, global followers, and God’s unwavering faithfulness. “I faced a life-threatening calamity, had emergency surgery, survived the surgery, and I’m back.”

Despite the severity of his ordeal, Bishop Jakes spoke of feeling “cradled” in divine peace during the crisis. “In the midst of it all, I didn’t experience it the way others did. What I did experience was the feeling of being cradled. It was quiet, peaceful, and I felt held by God,” he reflected.

Jakes used his experience to remind his congregation of life’s fragility and God’s grace. “On the day I left the ICU, I felt the sun hit my face while someone down the hallway was being taken to the morgue. It reminded me of God’s faithfulness. Every moment of your life is a gift,” he said, urging the congregation to maintain a perspective of gratitude.

The bishop also emphasized the importance of self-care, particularly for those dedicated to serving others. “Sometimes, we neglect ourselves while taking care of others. But the truth is, some things are beyond our control, and sometimes they happen in spiritual warfare,” he noted.

In a lighthearted moment, he praised his wife, First Lady Serita Jakes, for her unwavering presence throughout his recovery. “She never left my side. From ICU to surgery to rolling out in double matching wheelchairs, she was always within three feet of me,” Jakes recounted with gratitude.

Bishop Jakes concluded his message with a call to worship. “I need you to help me praise God that we’re not planning a funeral. Satan didn’t get the victory today,” he declared passionately.

The congregation erupted in praise, honoring both Bishop Jakes’ testimony and God’s deliverance. “Physically, I can’t praise Him like I want to, but somebody with the strength and dexterity, give Him glory for me!” he urged.

Bishop Jakes’ recovery and message of hope served as a powerful reminder of God’s sustaining grace and the value of faith in times of crisis.
