“God Wants Us To Live Our Lives With A Sense Of Purpose” – Pastor Mensa Otabil

1–2 minutes

Renowned preacher and General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil, has emphasized the importance of living an intentional and purpose-driven life.

Speaking to a packed congregation at ICGC Christ Temple East in Teshie-Accra, Pastor Otabil delivered a compelling sermon titled Fit for Purpose (1), urging believers to embrace clarity and purpose, particularly as the year 2024 draws to a close.

“God wants us to live with a clear sense of purpose,” Pastor Otabil stated, linking the message to the broader reflection on time and its significance. “As we come to the end of the year, we are not just transitioning into 2025 but marking one-quarter of a century in this new millennium. Time is great, but time without purpose is useless.”

Drawing from historical reflections, Pastor Otabil reminisced about the widespread focus on the year 2000 during the 1980s. “In the 80s, every country was talking about Vision 2000. But when 2000 came, and we hadn’t achieved anything, we shifted to Vision 2020, and now it’s Vision 2050. Somehow, we think setting dates far ahead will fulfill our dreams, but time doesn’t change anything—purpose does.”

He urged the congregation to resist the tendency to defer meaningful actions to the future, emphasizing the need for intentionality. “Until you have a purpose for time, time will be wasted. Many of us have shifted all our hopes to 2025, saying, ‘In 2025, I will do this or that.’ But if you’re not purposeful and intentional, the year will come and end, and nothing will be achieved.”

He added, “Each one of us must have the sense that our lives are purposeful. We’re not just living a general life or merely existing—we are here for a reason.”

Pastor Otabil challenged believers to actively seek and fulfill their God-given purposes. “God wants us to live our lives with a sense of purpose. Purpose transforms time into meaning and ensures our lives are not wasted,” Pastor Otabil affirmed.

As the congregation prepares to transition into the new year, the message left many inspired to approach 2025 with renewed focus and intentionality.
