Archbishop Duncan Williams’ Early Ministry Struggles: A Story of God’s Grace

1–2 minutes

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan Williams has shared an inspiring story of his struggles with dyslexia, self-education, and the transformative power of God’s call.

Speaking candidly, he revealed, “I struggled with education… I was dyslexic. I would sit in class, and my mind was blank. I couldn’t see or comprehend anything.”

Frustrated, he walked away from school, teaching himself to read, write, and speak English through the Bible, which became his guide. “The Bible is my best book. I learned how to read and write through the Bible,” he noted.

In Bible school, the Archbishop often felt inadequate due to his poor English skills. “I told God, ‘I think you made a mistake bringing me here to embarrass me,’” he admitted.

However, during one of his lowest moments, he heard God’s voice reassuring him: “I take the foolish things of this world to confound the wise. I will make you a sign and a wonder to your generation.”

Reflecting on his journey, Archbishop Duncan Williams declared, “God takes nobodies and makes them somebodies.”

Today, he stands as a global leader, his testimony a source of hope and inspiration for countless people facing adversity.
