The University of Gold Coast (UGC) has officially joined the ranks of fully autonomous degree-awarding institutions in Ghana after receiving the prestigious Presidential Charter on December 19, 2024. This recognition, considered a hallmark of excellence, cements UGC’s status as a leading Christian university with a focus on academic innovation and faith-driven leadership.

Announcing the achievement on his Facebook page, Bishop Gideon Titi-Ofei, the institution’s founder, hailed the milestone as “a historic chapter in UGC’s remarkable journey of excellence.” He noted the transformative growth of UGC, which began in 2004 as the African Centre for Leadership and Human Resource Development (AFRILEAD). Over the years, the institution evolved into the Graduate School of Governance and Leadership, then Accra Business School, and now the University of Gold Coast.

The management of UGC expressed gratitude to its leadership and community for their unwavering dedication. “This milestone is a testament to our commitment to academic rigor, Christ-centered education, and our mission to shape a golden generation of transformative leaders,” the university said in an official statement.

UGC’s programs, which include postgraduate, undergraduate, and professional offerings, are designed to bridge classroom learning with industry demands. The Presidential Charter underscores the government’s confidence in UGC’s governance and academic standards.

Reflecting on the achievement, Bishop Titi-Ofei credited the visionary leadership of his team, particularly Lady Olivia Titi-Ofei. “We are immensely grateful to our founding leaders and the entire UGC community for their dedication and prayers that brought us to this historic moment,” he stated.

As UGC steps into a new era, its vision of integrating faith and learning remains unwavering. “We are committed to raising Christ-centered, globally impactful leaders who inspire change, drive innovation, and solve complex challenges,” the university affirmed.

Congratulations to the University of Gold Coast for this monumental achievement.
