Prepare to Advance in 2025

2–3 minutes

Introduction

Preparation is the foundation of success. Every effective individual, whether a salesperson or a pastor, knows that great achievements stem from thorough preparation. Spectacular outcomes are often a result of the behind-the-scenes effort that may seem mundane.

As the saying goes, “Champions don’t become champions in the ring; they are merely recognized there.” This means that champions are forged through their daily habits.

Joshua 1:10-11 (NKJV) says,

10 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying, 11 “Pass through the camp and command the people, saying, ‘Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within three days you will cross over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land which the Lord your God is giving you to possess.’”

The principles Joshua instructed the Israelites to follow before taking the Promised Land provide valuable lessons for those determined to succeed in 2025. Here are 4 top lessons we can learn from the passage:

1. Provisions

Joshua instructed the people to “prepare provisions” (v. 11). Provisions signify the necessities and resources required for the journey ahead. Similarly, in 2025, you must assess and gather what you need to reach your goals. This could involve financial planning, increasing streams of income, developing a strict budget, or acquiring new skills. Consider what you want to achieve by year’s end and take intentional steps to meet those needs. Visualize success and prepare accordingly. Without readiness, even the best opportunities may overwhelm you.

2. Timing

Preparation is meaningless without timing. Joshua emphasized a clear timeline, saying the people should get ready because, “within three days” (v. 11), they would cross the Jordan. Timing determines whether actions lead to success or failure. In 2025, discern the seasons and act at the right moment. This year is not just a passage of time or the backdrop for elections; it’s an opportunity to elevate your life. Leaders recognize that the right action at the right time yields success, so synchronize your efforts with divine timing and seize your moment.

3. Action

Preparation and timing must be followed by action. While opportunities may come to everyone, responses vary, and only those who act see results. Joshua’s bold directive—“You will cross over this Jordan” (v. 11)—embodied decisive action. Action turns dreams into reality and separates achievers from dreamers. Step forward with courage and faith, even in the face of fear or uncertainty. As John C. Maxwell wisely said, “People’s lives change when they change something they do every day.”

4. Possession

The ultimate goal of preparation is possession. Joshua instructed the Israelites to “go in to possess the land” (v. 11). Success in 2025 should be marked by measurable results and progress toward your purpose. Victory is not about effort alone but about outcomes. Like in sports, the ultimate question is, “Who won?” not “Who tried harder?” Strive to fulfill your vision and focus on achieving tangible milestones.

Conclusion

The principles Joshua shared remain timeless. As you prepare for 2025, keep these lessons in mind: gather the right provisions, recognize timing, take bold action, and possess your vision. Regardless of past failures, remember: where there is life, there is hope.

British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli once said, “The secret of success in life is for a man to be ready for his time when it comes.” Focus on your future, embrace preparation, and advance with confidence. Season’s greetings, and here’s to your success in 2025!
