Pastor Kumuyi’s Journey: How a Small Bible Study Became a Global Church

During an exclusive interview on USA’s Daystar TV, Pastor William F. Kumuyi, founder of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, shared the remarkable journey of how a small Bible study with 15 members grew into a global church with over 120,000 members. He was in the United States for the inauguration of President Donald J. Trump when he made these revelations.

Reflecting on his early days in ministry, Pastor Kumuyi stated, “I got born again in 1964, on April 5th, at the age of 23. It was a great, great transformation at that point.” He recalled how his passion for evangelism led him to start a Bible study group while serving as a mathematics lecturer at the University of Lagos.

“In August of 1973, when I became a professor, I started a Bible study for just 15 people,” he explained. “Could you have ever imagined what God was going to do with your life when you said yes?” he was asked during the interview. To this, he responded, “Only God could do what He has done.”

The Deeper Christian Life Ministry has since expanded worldwide, impacting millions through its teachings and commitment to the gospel. Pastor Kumuyi emphasized that the growth was not of human effort but divine orchestration, stating, “If God can take a math teacher and transform him into a world gospel force, you ought to be inspired today.”

Daystar TV hosts marveled at the global reach of his ministry, noting, “Isn’t it amazing to think about how big the body of Christ is?” As the interview concluded, Pastor Kumuyi encouraged viewers to trust in God’s power to transform lives, just as He had done in his own journey.
