From Classroom to Ultra-Modern Church: ICGC Holy Ghost Temple’s 29-Year Journey

3–5 minutes

Introduction

On February 4, 2025, the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) Holy Ghost Temple celebrates 29 years of God’s faithfulness. What began as a humble gathering in a classroom has now become an ultra-modern church, a testimony of divine providence and the dedication of its leaders and members.

During a recent Sunday service, Prophet Christopher Yaw Annor, the Senior Pastor of ICGC Holy Ghost Temple, reflected on the church’s remarkable journey, expressing gratitude for how far God has brought them.

A Humble Beginning

ICGC Holy Ghost Temple was not always the grand edifice it is today. As Prophet Annor recalled, “29 years ago, which will be on the 4th, this church started in a classroom… We never knew we could have our own place.” The early days were filled with uncertainty, but faith was their anchor. The congregation did not have a comfortable or attractive place of worship, but they were drawn together by their love for God.

Prophet Annor likened the church’s beginnings to the story of David, saying, “I can see some of us and place somebody like a shepherd boy from the wilderness to pastor.” It was not about prestige or wealth; it was about answering God’s call. The members who joined in those early days were not drawn by outward beauty but by their deep desire to serve God.

Unity: The Foundation of Growth

One of the key pillars of ICGC Holy Ghost Temple’s growth has been unity. Prophet Annor emphasized, “Wherever there is unity, that’s where the Spirit of God operates.” The congregation worked together, bringing whatever they could to support the church. Some brought cement, others contributed their skills, and together, they built a place where God’s presence dwelled.

Prophet Annor reflected on their early challenges, particularly during the time when they worshipped in a temporary tent structure.” He recalled, “We didn’t have money, but we wanted to put the place nicely. One would bring cement, this one would bring this… Everybody got involved.”

Despite their struggles, the members remained committed, trusting that God had a greater plan for them. They made do with what they had, including second-hand toilet seats. Prophet Annor encouraged the congregation, “See, life is not a competition. Do with what you have. Start with what you have.”

Leadership and Sacrifice

The journey of ICGC Holy Ghost Temple would not have been possible without strong leadership. Prophet Annor acknowledged the commitment of the church leaders, some of whom have been with the church since its early days. “I want to thank the leadership… strong leadership, not leadership to control, but leadership to help.”

He also paid tribute to those who had passed on, saying, “One of them has gone to be with the Lord. I respect him.” He expressed a desire for the first leadership members to be honored, suggesting, “Some of the classrooms should be named after them, not me.”

God’s Faithfulness and the Future

Reflecting on how far the church has come, Prophet Annor could not help but give thanks: “God has been very gracious to this church. It’s one of the few less troubled churches in the world.”

Despite humble beginnings, the church has grown tremendously. Many who once walked to church now own cars. The congregation has expanded, and the facilities have improved, but the mission remains the same—to serve God and His people. Prophet Annor reminded the members that “the great men are in the people” and that, like the wise men who recognized baby Jesus’ significance, they must see beyond the present and embrace the future with faith.

As the church looks ahead, Prophet Annor assured the congregation, “We have seen nothing yet… When you are given another story, you will look today and say, ah, we used to live in this small place… You’ll have a bigger testimony to keep.”

Conclusion

The journey of ICGC Holy Ghost Temple is an evidence of God’s faithfulness, the unity of believers, and the power of perseverance. From a small classroom to an ultra-modern church, the transformation is nothing short of miraculous.

As Prophet Annor declared, “29 years, God has brought us. And what you see is God plus you.”

Indeed, the story of ICGC Holy Ghost Temple is a reminder that when God is at the center, no beginning is too small, and no dream is too big.
