Accra, Ghana – General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil, has called on Christians to ensure that their understanding of Jesus Christ—known as Christology—is accurate, warning that a faulty Christology leads to a faulty faith.
Preaching on Part 10 of his series “Jesus: His Glory” at ICGC Christ Temple East in Teshie-Accra on Sunday, March 16, Pastor Otabil emphasized the centrality of Jesus in the Christian faith. He stated, “Christology is our knowledge of Christ, and when your Christology is faulty, your faith will be faulty because everything about Christianity is about the Christology of Jesus Christ.”

According to him, the early church held several conferences in the fourth century solely to establish a proper understanding of Jesus, recognizing that “if we miss who Jesus is, we’ve missed everything.”
Pastor Otabil expressed concern that many modern Christians have a shallow or even dangerous understanding of Jesus. He noted that while churches often teach about topics like altars, portals, and seed sowing, Christology is neglected. “So you find that there is so much heresy, there’s so much error in the teaching in the church, and so many practices in the church that are not biblical, neither are they pleasing to God,” he warned.
He urged believers to prioritize knowing Jesus correctly before focusing on other teachings, stressing that “our salvation depends on Him, our faith depends on Him, our prayer depends on Him, miracles, whatever we desire depends on Jesus.”
