“You Cannot Worship Jesus and Add Something to Him” – Pastor Mensa Otabil

1–2 minutes

Accra, March 16, 2025 – General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Pastor Mensa Otabil, has urged Christians to remain steadfast in their faith in Christ alone, cautioning against blending Christianity with other religious practices.

Speaking at ICGC Christ Temple East in Teshie-Accra during his sermon series “Jesus: His Glory”, Pastor Otabil stressed that Christianity does not mix with any other faith or belief system.

“Christians cannot be syncretist. You cannot worship Jesus and add something to him,” he declared. “You see, you cannot say Jesus and African traditional religion. Jesus and this. Jesus and that. Jesus in Christianity is Jesus alone. It’s Jesus alone.”

He strongly rejected the idea of combining Christianity with elements of other religions, stating, “Christianity doesn’t mix with Islam. It doesn’t mix with Buddhism. It doesn’t mix.”

Pastor Otabil further challenged those who attempt to merge different religious practices, stressing that faith in Christ requires exclusivity. “You cannot believe prayer in the name of Jesus and libation at the same time. You cannot say, give to Jesus what is Jesus and to Caesar what is Caesar, and then mix them up.”

He reinforced his message with a theological reflection on the fullness of Christ’s glory, as revealed in Scripture. “If you are adding something to Jesus, you are not a Christian because a Christian is somebody who commits to Jesus and him alone,” he stated.

Quoting John 1:14, Pastor Otabil underscored, “We beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. That word full is very powerful. It’s full without any space left. It’s fully full.”

He concluded by affirming that “all grace is found in Jesus Christ, resides in Jesus Christ,” urging believers to hold fast to their faith without compromise.
