Introduction

Have you ever wondered why millions hate and speak against the Bible but millions of people keep turning to an ancient book every day? The Bible is more than ink on paper—it’s a living, breathing message from the heart of God. If you’ve ever struggled to connect with it, you’re not alone. But here’s the truth: the more you understand what the Bible really is, the more you’ll want to read it every single day.

While the devil does not want the world to discover the riches of the truth of God’s word, God has already made it available for people to know Him and live for Him.

According to Psalm 19, there are two main ways God has revealed Himself to us. First, God has revealed Himself to us through creation. “The heavens declare the glory of the Lord; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” (Psalm 19:1, NIV). Second, God has revealed Himself to us through His word.

It is therefore safe to conclude that the more we fall in love with the Bible and prayerfully read it with the aid of the Holy Spirit, the more we build our trust and relationship with God.

This post seeks to help us with 5 pointers to help us know what the Bible is all about.

PART 1: HOW DID WE GET THE BIBLE?

Just as we have noted already, the Bible is the word of God given to us by God Himself. Hebrews 1:1-2 states, “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days, he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.”

We got our Bible from God Himself. Hence, the Bible is not a human invention. The Bible originated from God by using holy men and women to write what He intended to communicate to the people then and now. Hence, when you read your Bible, you come across phrases like, “And God said…” (Genesis 1:3).

We can therefore safely conclude by saying that the Bible has God as the main originator who used men to communicate His truth to humanity.

That is how we got our Bible!

PART 2: WHAT IS THE BIBLE ABOUT?

In part 2 of this write-up, we want to explore what the Bible is all about. Many times people get confused and think the Bible is just another historical book like any other bequeathed to us from history.

Much as we agree that it is a historical book, it is more than just a book. The God of all creation is its Author and that changes everything. 2 Timothy 3:16 says,

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” (NIV)

Here are 5 ways we can describe the Bible in concrete terms:

1. The Bible Is God’s Love Letter to You

From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible reveals God’s plan to redeem humanity and have a relationship with us. It’s not just rules and history—it’s filled with God’s promises, emotions, and deep affection.

“Your word, Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens.” – Psalm 119:89 (NIV)

In the Bible, we discover a King and His kingdom and how it works. We discover a bride and the bridegroom who are on courtship awaiting marriage. It is indeed a love book of all ages.

2. The Bible Is a Manual for Life

The Bible gives practical wisdom for every area of life—family, work, relationships, health, and more. It’s God’s guidebook to help you live with purpose, peace, and power.

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” – 2 Timothy 3:16 (NIV)

No book on earth can claim to grant salvation and eternal life. No book can boast of 100% success when you put your trust in it. No book ever covers every issue of life like the Bible does. It is indeed a manual for life.

3. The Bible Is Your Spiritual Food

Just as our bodies need food, our spirits need God’s Word to grow strong. Skipping the Bible weakens us; feeding on it strengthens us.

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” – Matthew 4:4 (ESV)

Jesus asked Peter to feed His lambs with the word of God. It is food to the spirit just as physical food is to the body. If we want strength, we must take in more.

4. The Bible Is a Living, Powerful Force

The Bible isn’t a dead document. It speaks, it convicts, it heals, and it transforms lives. Many people have found hope, direction, and healing just by reading it.

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword…” – Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)

When people think God is silent and dead, someone from nowhere arises who uses the same ancient book to perform wonders, quickening men to their senses. People are brought back to revival when they discover the Bible.

5. The Bible Tells One Grand Story

Despite being written over 1,500 years by 40+ authors, it tells one unified story—God’s redemption plan through Jesus. It’s not random or outdated; it’s divinely orchestrated.

“All the Scriptures speak of Me” - Jesus Christ, Luke 24:27, 44

Right from Genesis to Revelation, we discover a unique pattern of a single agenda by God to redeem fallen humanity to Himself through His only begotten Son. Outside of Him, there is no eternal life. He is the way, the truth, and the Life. Anyone who wants to go to the Father must go through Him.

Conclusion

We live in a time of redemption history when all manner of people are claiming to have light and truth. They say they have truth that equals the Bible, postulating that there are multiple ways to God.

But the Bible only attests itself as the only truth of God which is able to grant salvation unto men.
